This year, I've adopted a new approach to travel that focuses on enhancing and preserving my memories, which have not always been my strongest asset. I've noticed that details from my trips—such as what I studied beforehand and the sights I visited—often fade quickly. To address this, I've recently developed a method of comparing my initial travel plans with what I actually experienced. Upon returning, I update my itinerary with personal photos and write essays about the most intriguing aspects of my research and visit.
This reflective practice not only enriches the travel experience but also aims to improve my retention, turning each journey into a memory lasting longer. Hopefully, sharing these experiences with friends and family will also help strengthen my recollections and maybe even provide useful insights and recommendations for anyone interested in visiting the places I've explored.
Ultimately, I've come to realize that you enjoy a trip three times: when planning it, when experiencing it, and when reminiscing about it.
